Avies (Tallinn Lennart Meri) President and Chief Executive Officer, Allan Soll, says he hopes to see the carrier resume operations in the coming weeks.
Speaking to the Baltic News Service (BNS), Soll said that in the four months since the Estonian Civil Aviation Administration (Lennuamet) had suspended Avies's AOC over safety concerns, the airline had undertaken various improvements to its operations.
Aside from a staff-reduction programme aimed at cutting costs, the airline has also begun to re-engage former customers over their interest in using the Estonian carrier's ACMI/charter services.
The carrier is also in the process of exiting bankruptcy proceedings, insitiuted at the behest of its Swedish creditors, SwedeWings AB and Bromma Air Maintenance AB, in June last year.
In addition to regular flights to Stockholm Arlanda, Avies had operated the Estonian government's Public Service Obligation (PSO) routes between the capital, Tallinn Lennart Meri, and the islands of Kuressaare and Kärdla. That contract has, however, now been awarded to Lithuania's TransAviaBaltika (KTB, Kaunas International) and the Saartelennuliinid (Tallinn Lennart Meri) virtual carrier brand.
