Swiss (LX, Zurich) has ordered one more B777-300(ER) bringing to ten the total number of the type it intends to operate. The Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt International) subsidiary said in a statement the twinjet would arrive during the course of 2018.
Swiss is using the incoming Boeing (BOE, Washington National) widebodies to replace its outgoing A340-300 fleet, part of which is being transferred to its Edelweiss Air (WK, Zurich) unit. Swiss will however retain five A340-300s that will be refurbished.
At present, it deploys its six existing B777-300(ER)s on scheduled flights from Zurich to Athens, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi, Frankfurt International, Geneva, Hannover, Hong Kong International, London Heathrow, Los Angeles International, Miami International, Montréal Trudeau, San Francisco, Singapore Changi, and Vienna.
Owing to labour contract requirements, the aircraft are wet-leased from its Swiss Global Air Lines (Zurich) subsidiary.
