The Russian Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsia) has announced Nordwind Airlines (N4, Moscow Sheremetyevo) as the country's designated carrier for the Moscow-New York, United States route.
Nordwind will be able to operate the route, previously allocated to the now defunct Transaero Airlines (Moscow Vnukovo), up to 7x weekly. The rights cover passenger, cargo, baggage and mail.
Following the withdrawal of Delta Air Lines (DL, Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) last month, Aeroflot (SU, Moscow Sheremetyevo) is now the only operator in the market offering double-daily return flights between Moscow Sheremetyevo and New York JFK.
In tandem with its tour operator parent Pegas Touristik, Nordwind offers scheduled charter flights to destinations in North Africa, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, Western Europe, Mauritius, India and Sri Lanka, China, and Southeast Asia. In terms of the Americas, the only destinations it serves there are Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico.
