Korean Air (KE, Seoul Incheon) has taken delivery of its maiden B787-9 following the hand-over of HL8081 (msn 34810) at Charleston International on Wednesday, February 22.

The General Electric GEnx-1B64-powered twinjet will shortly be positioned to South Korea where it will be deployed on flights between Seoul Gimpo and Jeju for one month for certification purposes. It features six seats in First, eighteen in Business, and 245 in Economy for a total of 269 seats.

In a statement, Korean Air said it would then deploy the widebody jet on flights to Toronto Pearson, Madrid Barajas, and Zurich later this year.

"The 787 Dreamliner will be a key member of Korean Air's fleet as we continue to introduce next-generation airplanes to our customers," said Walter Cho, president of Korean Air.

Korean Air is scheduled to add five B787-9s from Boeing (BOE, Washington National) to its fleet this year with the remainder due in 2019.
