The Polish government has ordered three VIP-configured B737NextGens from Boeing Business Jets.
The US manufacturer said following a signing ceremony in Warsaw this week that the order entails two new BBJ2s and one B737-800. Once delivered, the aircraft will be operated by the Polish Air Force (Polska Wojska Lotnicze i Obrony Powietrznej) as head-of-state aircraft for the president and top government officials.
Deliveries are scheduled to begin in late 2017 and run through 2020.
In the aftermath of the 2010 crash of Tu-154M PL-101 (msn 90A837) near the city of Smolensk, Russia, which killed all ninety-six people on board including the President of Poland Lech Kaczyński, the government disbanded the Air Force's then VIP unit, the 36th Special Aviation Regiment. As it stands, all official flights are now carried out by two LOT Polish Airlines E175s.
Aside from these three B737s, the Polish Defense Ministry also signed a deal for two Gulfstream Aerospace G550 executive jets in November last year. The jets are due to be delivered this year.
