SpiceJet (SG, Delhi International) has announced that it will launch two of its RCS routes in July. The route authorities, awarded under India's UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagarik, or "let the common man fly") scheme, will connect Mumbai International-Porbandar and Mumbai-Kandla commencing July 10. The flights will be operated using Dash 8-400 equipment, of which the carrier has nineteen.
"It has been our constant endeavour to enable the common man to fly since we began operations 12 years back," SpiceJet Managing Director Ajay Singh said in a statement. "We will connect many more small towns and cities in times to come."
SpiceJet was awarded three-year exclusivity on eleven routes under the UDAN scheme. Of the five airlines awarded routes, SpiceJet was the only one which did not apply for viability gap funding. Other routes SpiceJet is expected to launch under the UDAN include Adampur-Delhi International, Kanpur Chakeri-Delhi, Pantnagar-Hyderabad International, and Jaisalmer-Jaipur.
