American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) has deferred deliveries of three A321neo originally due to have arrived from Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) from 2021. Chief Financial Officer Derek Kerr said in a recent earnings call the affected aircraft would now arrive in 2023.
American Airlines currently has 100 A321neo on order from the Europeans.
It is recalled that American has also deferred forty B737 MAX, previously scheduled to arrive between 2020 and 2022, to 2025 and 2026.
According to the carrier, these changes will better align aircraft deliveries with planned retirements and will reduce planned capital expenditures by approximately USD200 million in 2019 and USD800 million in 2020.
