Sita Air (Kathmandu) will relocate its base for all flights to the province of Karnali in north-western Nepal from Nepalgunj to Surhket as of June 29, 2018, MyRepublica has reported.
"Looking at the transforming social and political scenario of the country following adoption of the federal system, we have taken this step to address people's demand for easy air service," Managing Director Rajendra Bahadur Singh has said.
According to the ch-aviation capacity module, Surkhet currently sees no scheduled services, while Nepalganj is also served by Yeti Airlines, Buddha Air, and Shree Airlines.
The regional specialist has been operating its services to Karnali out of Nepalganj since 2008. The mountainous Karnali province has only STOL airports and is unable to receive any flights from more distant parts of the country, including the capital Kathmandu.
The relocation will only affect the carrier's scheduled flights. All international charter flights will continue to be operated from Nepalganj. Surkhet is located closer to Karnali in comparison with Nepalganj, which lies in the lowlands on the border with India.
Sita Air currently operates four Do228s.
