FAI Rent-A-Jet (IFA, Nuremberg) has completed the addition its maiden Bombardier Aerospace Challenger 850 business jet and simultaneously retired its last Learjet 55.
The carrier's first Challenger 850, D-AFAN (msn 8081) is an ex-TAG Aviation (United Kingdom) (VIP, Farnborough) 2009 vintage unit. The aircraft is currently undergoing new paint and interior enhancements at FAI Technik, the company’s maintenance division at Nuremberg, and will be available for ad-hoc charters as of mid-November 2018.
In turn, the last retired Learjet 55, D-CONU (msn 55-124), was already ferried to Mexico in September and will now operate as an air ambulance for Med Jets, a brand of Air Trek (Punta Gorda, FL).
"We are obviously sad to say farewell to our last Learjet 55. It has proved to be an effective workhorse for FAI over the years. By focusing on the operation of only one type of the Learjet family, the Learjet 60 however, FAI anticipates greater efficiency through further cost savings in crew-training and spare part stocking," Chairman Siegfried Axtmann said.
FAI already operates four Bombardier Challenger 604s, four Global Expresses, and ten Learjet 60s. It plans to focus its future fleet development around Learjet 60s.
