Bearskin Airlines (Sioux Lookout) has announced it will launch a ground shuttle service from Red Lake to Dryden Regional during the closure of the former airport for repairs.
"Bearskin Airlines was advised by the Red Lake Airport of their intent to close the runway between June 19, 2019 and July 8, 2019. On days that Bearskin’s regular schedule is impacted, a complimentary ground shuttle service between Dryden-Red Lake offering a minimum 2 frequencies on weekdays as well as Sunday service will be offered," the regional specialist said in a statement.
The airport will continue to operate on Tuesdays, Monday evenings, and Wednesdays mornings during the period of reconstruction. At these times, Bearskin will operate its scheduled flights to the airport.
The schedule of the shuttle from Dryden, an airport located over 150 kilometres away from Red Lake, will be coordinated to allow passengers flying from or to Thunder Bay and Winnipeg International to connect in Dryden.
According to the ch-aviation capacity module, Bearskin Airlines operates from Red Lake to Winnipeg directly and to Thunder Bay via Sioux Lookout and 1x weekly also via Dryden. All flights are operated using Metroliner equipment.
The only other airline serving Red Lake, Wasaya Airways (WP, Pickle Lake), has not yet announced its plans during the airport closure.
