FlyMe (Maldives) (Malé) has taken delivery of a factory-new ATR72-600, 8Q-VAY (msn 1588), on October 31, 2019, thus resuming the operations of the type after a four-year gap.
ATR - Avions de Transport Régional said in a social media post that the Maldivian carrier will use the turboprop "to supply essential connectivity within the Maldives". The aircraft was delivered from Toulouse Blagnac via Irakleion, Marsa Alam, and Fujairah to Malé over the course of November 4-6, 2019, Skyliner Aviation has reported.
The Maldivian carrier leased two ATR72-600s - 8Q-VAS (msn 1069) and 8Q-VAT (msn 1109) - from GECAS between February 2013 and September 2015. Both were subsequently placed with now-defunct FMI Air (Yangon) in 2016 and now operate for VoePass Linhas Aéreas (2Z, Ribeirão Preto Leite Lopes) (with msn 1109 still undergoing pre-delivery maintenance).
According to the ch-aviation fleets module, FlyMe's fleet includes one ATR42-500 and two ATR72-500s. The airline uses the turboprops to run scheduled flights from Malé to Maamigili and Dharavandhoo Island. It is also planning to enter the seaplane market after a new terminal opens at the Maldivian capital gateway.
