interCaribbean Airways (JY, Providenciales) has acquired its first ATR72-500, formerly 8Q-VAW (msn 702), in a transaction facilitated by BLAC.

Previous operator Villa Air (VP, Malé) retired the 20.2-year-old aircraft on December 25, 2022. It has since been in storage at Maamigili airport, the ch-aviation fleets module shows. It was owned by Falko Regional Aircraft and managed by Chorus Aviation Capital prior to its sale to interCaribbean Airways. The Turks and Caicos carrier also acquired an ex-Villa Air ATR42-500, 8Q-VAX (msn 647). The 16.6-year-old aircraft has been parked at Maamigili since December 7, 2022. The Maldivian carrier owned the ATR42, its only unit of the type.

interCaribbean Airways said it would not disclose the expected delivery dates, but ch-aviation understands that the ATR72 was expected to deliver in February 2023 and the ATR42 in April.

interCaribbean Airways already operates one ATR42-500, its only ATR - Avions de Transport Régional turboprop. Its fleet also comprises ten E120s, three E145s, and a single DHC-6-200.

Villa Air continues to operate another ATR72-500, as well as one ATR72-600.
