American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) said it would suspend its services from Philadelphia International to Madrid Barajas in May and early June 2023 due to B787 delivery delays.
AA's daily route is the only scheduled service between the two cities, the ch-aviation schedules module highlights.
The airline currently operates thirty-four B787-8s and twenty-two B787-9s, and has a further three and 30 of each type due from Boeing and Boeing Capital, according to the ch-aviation fleets module. One of the -8s was delivered this month with another three B787s due later in 2023, and a further 12 in 2024.
The ch-aviation capacities module shows that American Airlines deploys its B787s mainly on transatlantic and South American routes, alongside a few services to Asia-Pacific, out of its hubs at Chicago O'Hare, Philadelphia, Miami International, and Dallas/Fort Worth.
American Airlines is one of only two US-based operators of the B787 Family aircraft. United Airlines operates twelve -8s and thirty-eight -9s, and has a further 100 -9s on firm order.
