Volaris (Y4, México City International) has revealed a pre-existing order for twenty-five A321neo during the Paris Air Show. The commitment is part of a previously undisclosed October 2022 purchase agreement between the airline and Airbus, and brings the number of firm orders the carrier has with Airbus to 143.
"These A321neo will support our long-term business viability and sustainability strategy while moving us closer to operating an all-neo fleet by 2028," said Volaris President and CEO Enrique Beltranena. He says the unspecified type of A321neo will provide for growth in the Mexican market, and in routes to the United States and Central America.
The Mexican budget carrier backed by Indigo Partners already has six A321-200Ns and thirteen A321-200NX in its all-Airbus fleet, as well as four A319-100s, forty A320-200s, forty-six A320-200Ns, and ten A321-200. The airline is the largest A320neo-type operator in Latin America. Excluding the recently added A321neo, the outstanding orders at Airbus include ninety-two A321neo and twenty-six A320neo aircraft.
