Phakalane Airways (Kimberley) is a new intra-provincial carrier offering flights between Kimberley, Upington and Springbok. A joint-venture between the private sector and the local Northern Cape government, Phakalane Airways CEO Chief pilot, Allan Roebuck, said, "Our market is for everybody but mainly concentrating on government business and tourism. We have done our homework there is definitely a need for transport in Northern Cape." The carrier is using two Beech (twin turboprop) King Air 200s and an Aero Commander and will officially launch flights on February 5. Looking to the future, Mr Roebuck said routes to Kuruman, Johannesburg Lanseria, De Aar and Sishen will be added at a later stage.
