Nile Air (NP, Cairo International) has cancelled an outstanding order with Airbus (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for seven A321-200s the European manufacturer's latest figures show. The order, placed in 2007 and firmed in 2009, was originally for nine A321ceos and would have seen deliveries arrive beginning in 2012.
However, following the overthrow of strongman Hosni Mubarak's regime in 2011 and the ensuing political and social chaos that has engulfed the troubled North African state since, the carrier has had to defer those plans indefinitely.
At present, Nile Air operates a pair of A320-200s on scheduled flights between Egypt and Saudi Arabia but has plans to dramatically expand its network to include Turkey, Italy, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Libya and Sudan.
