The US Department of Transportation (DOT) says it has selected Alaska Air Transit (JN, Anchorage Merrill) to conduct Essential Air Services (EAS) to the remote Alaskan town of Tatitlek.
A filing last week showed that from October 1, 2015, through to September 30, 2017, AAT has pledged to operate two weekly flights from Tatitlek to Anchorage Merrill using a Cessna (single turboprop) Grand Caravan 208EX. The total subsidy allotted for the flights is USD211,278.
Reeve Air Alaska's current 2-year contract to operate the route, albeit to Anchorage Ted Stevens, is scheduled to end on September 30. It too had applied to extend its current service alongside Security Aviation (SVX, Anchorage Ted Stevens) which had proposed a 2x weekly return service to Anchorage using 8-seat Piper (twin piston) Navajo aircraft.
