Kan Air (KND, Chiang Mai) resumed commercial flights with its ATR72-500 on Monday, October 26 following a near five month suspension of operations. The Thai domestic carrier is using the turboprop to ply a 3x weekly Chiang Mai-Utapao return service. Kan Air also operates a single Cessna (single turboprop) Caravan on regional flights out of Chiang Mai.
The Thai Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) ordered the airline to suspend flights on eight routes in June this year after an investigation revealed it had been operating them as a scheduled carrier and not a charter operator as required by its permit.
While the DCA subsequently allowed Kan Air to resume flights in late July. However, it has taken the carrier over twelve weeks to revive its Utapao operations.
