Island Airlines (Nantucket) has ceased operations after twenty-four years in business. The Nantucket-based carrier did not give any explanation for the move but is expected to file for bankruptcy in the following days.
Using a fleet of five Cessna (single turboprop) Grand Caravan 208Bs and three Cessna (twin turboprop) 404s, Island Airlines offered scheduled flights between the island of Nantucket and Hyannis, Massachusetts. Its closure leaves Cape Air (9K, Hyannis) as the route's only operator.
