Aeroméxico (AM, México City International) will become the world's second airline to restart B737-8 operations when it does so on December 21, ch-aviation schedule analysis has revealed.
The Mexican carrier, which took delivery of six B737-8s prior to the type's grounding in March 2019, plans to initially deploy the Boeing narrowbodies on the following routes:
- México City International-Cancún starting on December 21,
- Cancún-Tijuana starting on December 21,
- México City-Tijuana starting on December 22, and
- México City-Monterrey Mariano Escobedo starting on December 27.
On all routes, the B737-8s will be used interchangeably with other aircraft types.
Despite the carrier's plans, the Mexican civil aviation authority (Agencia Federal de Aviación Civil - AFAC) has yet to formally unground the B737 MAX.
Aeroméxico has firm orders for a further eleven B737-8s and forty-three B737-9s from Boeing, the ch-aviation fleets module shows.
The world's first airline to restart B737 MAX operations was Brazil's GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes (G3, São Paulo Congonhas). American Airlines (AA, Dallas/Fort Worth) plans to restart MAX commercial flights on December 29, 2020.
