mas (Mexico) (M7, México City International) has returned its sole B767-300F, N420LA (msn 34627), to owner LATAM Cargo Chile (UC, Santiago de Chile). The aircraft's exit sees the carrier's in-house fleet temporarily drop to six freighters. mas, which rebranded from Mas Air in February and before that, from LATAM Cargo Mexico in 2016, had operated this B767 since 2006.
The Mexican cargo specialist airline continues to operate one B767-200(SF), two B767-300ER(BDSF)s (although the ch-aviation fleets module reveals one is inactive), two A330-200(P2F)s, and one A330-300(P2F) (and one more wet-leased from galistair (Malta)).
N420LA's return signals a further break from former owner LATAM Airlines Group. In 2018, the Chile-based business sold its stake in mas to Mexican private equity fund Discovery Americas Capital. Earlier this year, mas CEO Luis Sierra said one of the reasons behind the latest rebrand was to break from the past. None of the remaining mas aircraft are leased from the LATAM Cargo Group.
Despite the loss of N420LA, mas has increased its fleet size this year with the arrival of the widebody Airbus freighters. Sierra has previously spoken of his goal to build the fleet to 18 planes by the end of 2024 and become a major international air cargo operator.
