Pakistani start-up K2 Airways (KTA, Karachi International) is preparing to commence B737 freighter operations on December 1, 2024, according to a Business Recorder report.

Citing CEO Tariq Raja, the newspaper says the necessary Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority approvals have been secured, and cargo flights will initially link Islamabad, Karachi International, and Lahore International.

Earlier this year, ch-aviation reported on K2 Airways ferrying in a B737-400(BDSF) which was entered into the local register as AP-BOI (msn 29210). After bedding down its domestic flights, K2 Airways is eyeing the Gulf market. Raja says the Gulf airlines presently transport around 700 tonnes of cargo daily in and out of Pakistan. He says K2 can compete on price, being able to offer substantially cheaper rates, and also leverage its local operational advantages.

In July, Raja told ch-aviation that he hoped to secure a second freighter by the end of 2024. The Business Recorder says his longer term target is four aircraft within three years.
