FAI Rent-A-Jet (IFA, Nuremberg) is advancing with its fleet renewal strategy that will replace its fleet of four Learjet 60s, six Challenger 604s, and five Global Express with Learjet 60XRs, Challenger 605s, and Global 6000s. In parallel, the company has announced the closure of its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility at Berlin Brandenburg.
In a recent press release, FAI revealed the addition of its second Learjet 60XR, D-CFAQ (msn 60-328), which replaces one of its four Learjet 60s. The company plans to replace its entire Learjet 60 fleet with XR-series aircraft over the next two years. Additionally, FAI is eyeing Challenger 605s and Global 6000s to replace the six Challenger 604s and five Global Express jets in its fleet.
FAI decided to close its Berlin Brandenburg MRO facility after unsuccessful negotiations with the airport regarding the acquisition of land for a new hangar. The company's MRO facility at Nuremberg will continue to serve non-Berlin-based clients.
"Regrettably, our requirement for a brand-new MRO facility at BER in the near future was not feasible. The existing structure, which dates back to post Second World War times, no longer met our expectations, nor those of our customers. This, along with the airport´'s requirement for a long-term lease agreement and a significant increase in lease fees, made continuing at BER untenable," founder and group chairman Siegfried Axtmann said.
