LAC - Línea Aérea Cuencana (Cuenca) is to move its operational base from Cuenca to Latacunga in a bid to increase its local market share. El Mercurio newspaper says the carrier recently suspended its Quito International to Loja service in preparation for the move. A formal relaunch with new flights to Cuenca, Loja, Lago Agrio, Coca, Guayaquil and Manta International is expected once certification at Latacunga is complete. A second aircraft is also set to join the fleet, which currently consists of just one CRJ700, later this year. As demand grows, LAC intends to enter both the charter and scheduled international passenger markets with Venezuela a likely first destination.
