Andrew Airways (Kodiak) has lodged a bid with the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for the Essential Air Service (EAS) contract at eleven Kodiak Island bush communities in Kodiak Island, Alaska. If awarded, these would be the carrier's first scheduled services.
The DOT put out a request for proposals to provide EAS services at Lazy Bay, Amook Bay, Kiana, Moser Bay, Olga Bay, Port Bailey, Port Williams, Seal Bay, Uganik, West Point, AK and/or Zachar Bay starting November 1, 2017. The contract is currently awarded to Island Air Service (2O, Kodiak), which has also lodged a renewed proposal.
The proposal from Andrew Airways comes in at USD188,410 per year, while Island Air Service is asking for more than USD500,000 per year. Both carriers will use 6-seat Dehavilland DHC-2 Beaver aircraft, and both propose a 2x weekly peak and 1x weekly off-peak schedule.
According to its application, Andrew Airways has a fleet of seven aircraft (of which five are floats). Island Air Service's website says that its land fleet comprises three Piper (single piston) Cherokee 6s, an BN-2 and a Cessna (single piston) 180, while its float aircraft are a DHC-2 and Cessna (single piston) 185.
