Iskwew Air (Vancouver International) has announced plans to launch operations on March 8, 2019. It intends to offer scheduled and charter services in cooperation with the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada, using a single ex-Orca Airways (Vancouver International) Piper (twin piston) PA-31-350 G-GPAK (msn 31-8052070).
It will operate out of Vancouver International South Terminal with plans to serve "remote communities across the province in the future".
Led by Teara Fraser, the airline is calling itself a 100% Indigenous and woman-owned air company.
"We are facing a global, national and local pilot shortage that is worsening and I am worried about those fly-in communities. I worry that those services won't be available to remote communities that depend on services for basic needs," Fraser told CBC.
