Kargo Xpress (Kuala Lumpur International) has ordered two B737-800(BCF)s from GECAS with deliveries scheduled for October 2021 and January 2022, respectively.
The two Boeing freighters will more than triple the Malaysian cargo carrier's existing cargo capacity. Formally incorporated as M Jets International Sdn Bhd., Kargo Xpress launched in June 2021 with a single B737-400(F) dry leased from Vallair. It currently operates predominantly domestic flights connecting Kuala Lumpur International, Kota Kinabalu, and Kuching. However, using its forthcoming B737-800(BCF)s, Kargo Xpress plans to expand its network to include Northern China and Western India.
The aircraft will be msn 34267 and 34966, both ex-GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes stock of just over 14 years of age. They have been under conversion at Jinan since May 2021 and at Shanghai Pudong since August 2021, respectively.
Kargo Xpress said earlier this summer that it was also planning to add two B767-300 freighters (of unspecified variant) in 2022. It also signalled an intention to add another B737-400(F).
"Our goal is to be the provider of choice for express e-commerce shipments, as well as point-to-point delivery, trans-shipment and flight-truck services for our time-to-market sensitive customers within Asia," Managing Director Gunasekar Mariappan said.
Kargo Xpress is set to become Malaysia's first B737-800 freighter operator, although regionally, Thailand's K-Mile Asia (8K, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi) already has one unit of the type.
