VECA Airlines (San Salvador International) is set to commence operations in the next few months with its first flights to be from San Salvador International to Guatemala City and San José Juan Santamaría, Costa Rica. The CEO of the El Salvadoran budget carrier, Édgar Hasbún, told the Prensalibre news magazine that so far, two former Cyprus Airways (1947) (Larnaca) A319-100s have been sourced, and are being used to help secure the carrier its Air Operators Certificate.
Meanwhile, the general director of the Costa Rican civil aviation authority (Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil - DGAC), Álvaro Vargas, has disclosed that Veca has applied not only for traffic rights between the two countries, but also for a domestic operator's licence.
