VECA Airlines (San Salvador International) chief advisor Jose Luis Merino has confirmed the El Salvadorean LCC has suspended operations for a period of three months.
In a statement to the El Diario de Hoy newssite, Merino said the downtime would allow for a restructuring of the carrier.
"More competition has arrived in the sector and, in addition, there are financial problems that we must solve. That is why a plane [N1821V (msn 2383)] has already been returned [to AerCap] and the same will be done with the other unit," he said.
ch-aviation analysis of Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows VECA's last commercial flight was on January 16 from San José Juan Santamaría to San Salvador International using its last remaining aircraft, A319-100 N1235V (msn 2718).
VECA's website is also no longer available for bookings.
