Primera Air Nordic (Riga) has announced plans to begin scheduled passenger flights to the United States from May 2018 onwards.
The Latvian leisure specialist said in its application to the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for exemption authority as well as a Foreign Air Carrier Permit (FACP) that it may use aircraft wet-leased from its Danish sister carrier Primera Air Scandinavia (Billund) to operate the flights pending receipt of US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) authority. Primera Air Scandinavia secured DOT and FAA authority to operate EU-US scheduled and chartered passenger flights in 2014.
A unit of Scandinavian tour operator Primera Travel Group (PTG), Primera Air Nordic currently operates two B737-700s and five B737-800s on scheduled passenger flights from cities in Iceland, Sweden, Finland, and Norway to leisure destinations in Morocco, Iceland, Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Malta, and Croatia.
