JetGo Australia (Brisbane International) has announced it has entered into Voluntary Administration as of Friday, June 1, 2018, with Jonathan McLeod and Bill Karageozis having since been appointed as its administrators.
The carrier said in a statement McLeod and Karageozis were "assessing the viability of the future operations" but that it would continue limited charter operations. Regular Passenger Transport (RPT) scheduled services have, however, been suspended for the duration of the administration period.
According to ABC, the filing comes after the Dubbo Regional Council, in western New South Wales, lodged a claim in the Australian Supreme Court seeking the airline's liquidation amid unpaid debts.
In a statement, the council said it was owed more than AUD270,000 (USD52,800) and that it had "acted responsibly" to recover ratepayers' money. Jetgo has countered that the council reneged on a previous agreement to waive taxes as part of an incentive agreement.
"The Council's legal actions seeking to recover that debt on behalf of the Dubbo regional community followed months of ongoing direct negotiations with JetGo," the council said.
A hearing will be held in the Supreme Court on June 18 as part of Dubbo Regional Council's legal action against the airline.
In the interim, Qantas (QF, Sydney Kingsford Smith) has set up a hotline number for the Company’s passengers to assist with cancelled flights and other flight options.
JetGo operates a fleet of six Embraer Regional Jets - two E135s, two E140s, and two E145s. It had also planned to take over a maiden E190 for its proposed launch fo flights to Singapore Changi later this year.
